Sample Graduate Student Timeline

Notes:
  • This sample timeline was taken from the UWPA Grad Handbook.
  • Graduate School deadlines, etc. have been added in where the Graduate School recommends/requires the necessary paperwork (not necessarily the same as the Grad Handbook).
  • This is a 5 year Doctoral plan with a summer graduation.  As of 5/2009, no one has followed this plan yet.
  • Talk to your adviser about specific deadlines regarding the completion of your degree, as well as other requirements you might have such as obtaining funding, teaching duties and publishing papers.
  • If you have specific questions about paperwork, make sure that you contact someone in the Graduate School in advance.  They seriously will not take late paperwork and will make you stay an extra semester.  It's best to walk over and talk to them in person if possible.
