ABOUT ME

I love science communication!

I believe that science is not just about journal publications, but also about communicating important results to the public so that we can continue to move forward as a collective. Often, people in STEM fields are exceedingly passionate about their projects, but they don't have the necessary skills to convey the excitement and importance of their research. The stereotype of poor communication between scientists and the public begs to be broken, and I aim to be part of the effort to do so.

I am currently a PhD student in astronomy and Future Investigator in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology at the University of Wyoming. I use data from our telescope and the Apache Point Observatory to examine the tiny particles of dust between the stars. I obtained my MS in Physics and Astronomy from UWyo in May 2020 after receiving my BS in Engineering Physics from Colorado School of Mines in May 2018.

In 2021, I was named a Mass Media Fellow at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. While stationed at KUNC in Greeley, Colorado, I crafted science stories for the daily podcast, 'Colorado Edition'. My goal is to tell the true stories of science-- and make them understandable and fascinating for all. Radio is an incredible way to do that because I share the actual voices of scientists.

Additionally, I write for both the American Institute of Physics and the Astrobites blog. As a freelancer with AIP, I translate scientific papers into press releases that capture attention and key ideas. As an Astrobites author, I present scientific papers in a way that undergraduates can easily understand.

From June 2020 to June 2021, I was a science intern at Wyoming Public Radio, where I pitched, wrote, voiced, and produced short news spots and feature-length stories for the podcast, 'Open Spaces'. I covered a broad range of science topics, from climate change and animal migration to microbiology and black holes.
