Hello, hello. This is the last of the dakuten and I'll introduce handakuten which turns everything into a P. Let's not dally around. Take your seats everyone. It's time to begin today's lesson.

Pronunciation: DA is pronounced like the "da" in dark but shorter.

Pronunciation: JI is pronounced like the "jee" in jeep but shorter.
NOTE: You'll never see this
JI again. The only place it will be used is in a compound word that contains CHI.

Now, to continue with learning Katakana, I must introduce a little character called handakuten. Below is the drawing for handakuten (Actually it's a circle. It must be written counter-clockwise for a balanced character (that's how Reiko and Toru write), but after vigorous search, we could not find any sources of info for how it should really be written).


Handakuten turns everything it touches into a P sound. Anytime you see this character, you know that it will be P<vowel>. It is added to the top of HA, HI, FU, HE, HO and these only.
