About Me

My name is Emily Beer and I am a junior at Rice University in Houston, TX, newly majoring in geophysics. I was an astrophysics major through most of my sophomore year, which led me to the National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program in the physics and astronomy department at the University of Wyoming (UW) in Laramie, WY. I am in Naval ROTC at Rice and will be commissioned as a Naval officer following my graduation in 2008. During my time on active duty, I hope to work as a surface warfare officer in the area of nuclear power. When I leave the Navy, I plan to attend graduate school in geophysics or geology.
