measures the z very accurately (c.f. Longair chapter 15) to be
about 1100.
–Represents
a “photon barrier” or surface of last scattering where all
information at higher z is washed out by multiple
scatterings.
–Photons
from this epoch are seen today as the cosmic microwave
background radiation.
