The University of Wyoming Windy Ridge Foundation Astro Camp

We are pleased to announce the Windy Ridge Foundation Astro Camp, made possible by a generous donation from the Windy Ridge Foundation. This academic camp is a community of students, teachers, and scientists working together to help tomorrow's leaders follow their dreams through science education. The theme for camp will focus on the science and engineering behind exploring and traveling to a planet in another star system. We have been running similar residential science camps since 2003. A brief video of past camp activities may be found here.

Logistics: In 2021 camp will be held on the UW campus during July 11-17 and will serve up to 24 students entering 7th or 8th grade. Camp will start at 1:00 pm on July 11, and end at 11:30 am on July 17. On-campus housing and dining will be provided. Field trips to the local mountain ranges are likely. Students will be selected from Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Colorado. Apply by April 30, but applications by May 7 will be considered, pending camp capacity. Camp is 100% free to participants! Inquiries may be directed to Mr. Max Gilbraith at planetarium@uwyo.edu.

Other summer camps at UW may be found at the UW calendar under the K-12 STEM programs category. Note in particular the Teton STEM Academy for high school students.

The Windy Ridge Foundation Astro Camp is directed by Dr. Daniel Dale, Professor of Physics & Astronomy and Interim Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Danny is an astronomer who studies the star formation properties of galaxies in the nearby universe. As a father of two wonderful daughters, husband to an awesome school counselor, and brother to sisters who are excellent teachers, he understands the value of early learning opportunities that spark the imagination of tomorrow's leaders and problem solvers. Four in-service science teachers from Wyoming school districts will lead the camp curriculum, and five UW students will serve as 24/7 camp counselors.
